One Next Step

“Sometimes God doesn’t flash your future in front of your eyes in grand schemes. Sometimes He shows you one next step.”

Sometimes I think too hard.

On second thought, make that “most times”…

This week has been one of those times.

Today I woke up knowing I didn’t have time to think. I have too much to do. I feel that familiar sense of overwhelm.

I’m way behind schedule on my goals and tasks for the week… I lost a couple of days because of some worries about one of my children and a lack of focus aggravated by a lack of sleep.

Note to self: I need more sleep.

Anyway… As I rushed about my day, trying to play catch up and worrying about tomorrow (I have a work event all day, then company coming over for dinner immediately afterward), God decided to send me a few random messages…

“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today….” Exodus 14:13

“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept… If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 MSG)

And then I thought about the road in the photo above this post… and how long it looks… and how far away the people seem to be (did you even NOTICE them?)… and that it’s all a matter of perspective.

The most important thing is to take that next step — even if I’m unsure of where it leads. Even if it seems weird.

Even if I end up traipsing behind the rest of the herd…

None of this probably makes any sense to you. But that’s okay… It will soon enough.

I hope.

See y’all soon…

Good post for me today! So! Not only are we solitary people, we lean towards perfectionism….ouch! It’s very hard for me to let go and let God…with all my planning for today, tomorrow, next week, etc. LOL! How hard it is…to just stand still and ‘shine’!

    1. I’m glad this post spoke to you… I’m working very hard to NOT worry, to NOT “work” so hard and not THINK so much. And to let God lead me… even if it’s just to the next step.

      To be continued… 🙂
