Early to Rise — Day 1
“She gets up while it is still dark…” ~ Proverbs 31:15
I am an early bird by nature.
However… when the alarm went off at 4:30 this morning, it was painful to get out of bed. The bed was warm. The house is cold.
I am grateful for hot coffee, my hoodie, and warm, fuzzy socks,
Today is the first day of a 30-day challenge I joined yesterday.
For years, I actually woke up at 4:30 on a regular basis. Even without an alarm.
At some point, I decided I didn’t need to get up so early (probably when I “retired” a couple of years ago), so I worked hard to break the 4:30 a.m. habit. Sometimes, I even stayed in bed until 7:00 or 7:30… times that definitely aren’t late by most peoples’ standards, of course. However, for ME, it felt as if the day was halfway over. I missed my early mornings.
I think it’s genetics. Several centuries of European farmers in my ancestry, no doubt.
Anyway… today I began the work of getting back to 4:30 wakeup call. I just wish I had felt as awake when the alarm went off as I did at 4:00 a.m. this morning.
I’m proud to say that it is just now 7:00 a.m. and I have reviewed two grant proposal narratives and sent them in for a preliminary review.
It’s going to be a really great day!
I hope yours goes well, too…
Are you an early riser or a night owl? What time of day do you feel the most productive? Share your opinion of Ben Franklin’s saying: “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
Oh – and feel free to join me on this challenge for the next 30 days!

Wow, that is early. I used to get up much earlier when I was a student, but now I’m just shooting for beating the kids out of bed. Good for you!
Both of my parents were raised on farms, so I truly think it was ingrained in me before birth. I have always been an early riser and a morning person. I think it will be easier when summer arrives and the nights are shorter! 😉
